EVI works well

Tried the EVI. It worked as advertised. Real-time voice analysis was quick. Easy to integrate. No issues with billing either. Satisfied with the service.

Consistently reliable service

This isn't my first time using Hume AI; I've used their Multi-modal API and now the Octave TTS. They've been consistently reliable. My experience this time was just as smooth as previous orders. The APIs are stable, and I haven't had any unexpected downtimes or billing surprises. It's why I keep coming back when I need affective computing tools for my projects. The performance is always what I expect.

Good value for dev credits

I was looking to try out some emotional AI tools without spending a lot upfront. Hume AI offered free API credits when I signed up, which was perfect. It let me experiment with the Expression Measurement API for a small project. The amount of credits felt really fair for getting started. Definitely worth the purchase to test things out.

Solid tech, needs better docs

I used the Empathic Voice Interface for a prototype and found the technology itself quite impressive; the real-time voice analysis was surprisingly accurate. However, I did run into some snags with the developer documentation. It wasn't always as clear as I'd hoped for certain edge cases, which slowed me down a bit. Billing via API usage was straightforward, though. Overall, a good experience, but clearer docs would make it smoother for new users.

if i get this, is my data secure? like, what if i'm building something with sensitive info?

D Daniel Taylor 1 month ago
They mention HIPAA compliance in their FAQs, so that usually means they take data security pretty seriously. I'd check their specific privacy policy for the fine print though.

From what I gather, they're pretty upfront about data security. HIPAA compliance is a big deal, so that's a good sign for sensitive stuff. Always good to read their docs though just to be sure.

i'm a student researcher, any specific discounts for academics or something similar?

R Richard 1 week ago
They do mention student researcher discounts. You probably have to apply or prove your student status, but it's worth checking their site for the details.

Yes, I saw something about student researcher discounts in their FAQs. Might be specific programs or credit grants, so look it up on their developer docs.

thinking about using this for a side project. any free tier or way to test it out without dropping a bunch of cash right away?

H Hannah Scott 4 weeks ago
Definitely! They give out free API credits when you sign up, which is cool for testing things out.

Yep, there's usually a free tier for developers to play around with it. Great for getting a feel for the EVI or other APIs before committing.

hey, trying to figure out the pricing for this. is it like, pay per use, or more like a monthly subscription for certain features?

J Jason W. 1 week ago
From what I saw, it's mostly usage-based for the API calls. You pay for what you actually use, like minutes or requests.
4
J James Carter 1 week ago
Yeah, pretty sure it's per minute or per request depending on the API. They do have plans though, so you can commit to more usage for better rates I think.

how does this compare to, say, elevenlabs for voice stuff? is the 'empathic' part really that much better?

E Elizabeth T. 2 weeks ago
That's a good question. ElevenLabs is great for just generating voices, but Hume's EVI is supposed to actually understand and react to emotions in real-time. It's a different beast.
1
L Linda Phillips 2 weeks ago
I've played with both a bit. Hume's EVI really tries to make the AI sound more human and responsive to your mood, which ElevenLabs doesn't quite do in the same way. It's more about the interaction than just speech synthesis.
